Match cut
Also: MATCH CUT TO
A match cut transitions between two scenes by aligning a shape, motion, or composition across the join — a thrown bone cutting to a spacecraft, a round mirror to a round moon. Written "MATCH CUT TO:", it links scenes through visual rhyme, carrying an idea forward without dialogue.
A match cut joins two shots that share a visual element so the eye glides from one to the other and reads a connection. It is one of the most economical ways to make a thematic point with pure image.
On the page it is flagged as a transition so the visual rhyme is preserved through editing — the match is intentional and must survive the cut.
