EXT.
Also: exterior
EXT. is short for exterior. It starts a scene heading when the scene happens outdoors, like "EXT. BEACH - DAY." If the sky could be in the shot, the scene is usually EXT.
EXT. sits in the same spot as INT., at the very start of the scene heading. It tells the crew they are shooting outside, which brings in daylight, weather, traffic noise and permits.
Pick the one that matches where the camera is. A character looking out a window from inside is still INT., even if we see the street through the glass.
EXT. SCHOOL PARKING LOT - DAY Sam waits by her car, checking her phone every few seconds.
